"It had been my goal to photograph the seals off the end of Blakeney Point on the North
Norfolk coast.
However,
this being my first trip to this location I was to discover that the
boat trips that will
take you out to the seal colony are severely impacted by the tide levels
and it would
several hours before I could get out in a boat. Not shirking a challenge I
determined
that I would walk the length of the spit, some three miles of loose shingle,
head
on into a strong wind. The light and wind conditions did not allow photography
of the seals but I loved the experience of this islolated place so much that I set about
taking
a few landscapes. It is the fact that there is so much in a photograph that
appears
to have so little that makes me enjoy this one - the bands of muted colour
merging
leading the eye to the approaching storm. I got seriously wet on my return
walk
but this was one of the most enlivening experiences that I have enjoyed".
