"Blakeney Point Storm, Norfolk"

Back

"It had been my goal to photograph the seals off the end of Blakeney Point on the North
Norfolk coast. However, this being my first trip to this location I was to discover that the
boat trips that will take you out to the seal colony are severely impacted by the tide levels
and it would several hours before I could get out in a boat. Not shirking a challenge I
determined that I would walk the length of the spit, some three miles of loose shingle,
head on into a strong wind. The light and wind conditions did not allow photography
of the seals but I loved the experience of this islolated place so much that I set about
taking a few landscapes. It is the fact that there is so much in a photograph that
appears to have so little that makes me enjoy this one - the bands of muted colour
merging leading the eye to the approaching storm. I got seriously wet on my return
walk but this was one of the most enlivening experiences that I have enjoyed".
